Modern cities, particularly in developing countries, face continuous population growth and urbanization, necessitating attention to spatial justice in the distribution of urban services. Inadequate distribution of urban services can lead to citizen dissatisfaction and increased socio-economic inequalities.
This study examines equitable access to urban services (healthcare centers, educational facilities, public transportation, parks, and green spaces) across different neighborhoods of Marvdasht City, identifies existing inequalities, and proposes solutions to improve service distribution and enhance residents' quality of life.
This descriptive-analytical research surveyed citizens of Marvdasht (population: 148,858). Using Cochran’s formula, a sample size of 383 individuals was determined. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire and analyzed in SPSS using statistical methods such as chi-square and Tukey HSD tests.
Results revealed an imbalanced distribution of urban services across Marvdasht’s neighborhoods. Central, densely populated areas like "Sāipa" and "Masjed al-Rasul to Tamin Ejtemaei" had the highest service accessibility, while peripheral neighborhoods such as "Shahrbani to Bagh Farhadi" and "Sahlabad va Ferdowsi" were significantly deprived. Although 79.9% of respondents reported access to educational centers, disparities persisted in underserved areas, where residents face poor access or long travel times.
These inequalities highlight the urgent need for equitable urban planning to reduce gaps in service distribution. Citizens prioritized infrastructural and economic improvements. Proposed solutions include increased investment in deprived neighborhoods, expansion of public transportation networks, and construction of educational and healthcare facilities in peripheral areas.
